CIOMP have completed the mount for 2M telescope

Author: |

The Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) and the optotech company Changchun UP have been working cooperatively on the construction and set-up of the 2m Telescope, which is the one of the most important projects being undertaken by CIOMP’s Department of Opto-electric Detection Technology. After months of careful work, the assembly and testing of the mount for the telescope have been completed successfully and seamlessly, which is a testament to the close cooperation between the two organisations.

The massive mount of the 2m telescope is a critical component and its assembly has been the most difficult project to date for CIOMP. The mount weighs almost 14 tonnes and measures 3.7 m long, 2.7 m wide and 3.9 m high. During the research and development of the mount, the project team devised key technologies to enable high accuracy, large load ability and low friction torque. These include novel high-angular contact thrust ball bearings and direct-drive brushless torque motors.

In addition, CIOMP's Department of Opto-electric Detection Technology devised, assembled and tested the plans and components for the dimensional and geometrical tolerance index of the mount’s center piece for the first time.
