Jilin scientists develop world's largest SiC optical mirror

Author: |

The Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, a subsidiary of the Chinese Academy of Science, recently developed the world's largest silicon carbide (SiC) mirror – a high-precision SiC aspherical mirror with a diameter of 4.03 meters.

Much more stable and light compared to a glass mirror, the mirror can be widely used in fields such as astronomical telescopes and spacecrafts.

China owns all intellectual property rights of the core manufacturing equipment and techniques of the mirror, making China have the world-leading state-of-the-art technologies in large-diameter SiC aspherical optical mirrors.
