One of China’s top officials in charge of publishing led a visit to the editorial office of Light: Science & Applications (LSA), one of China’s most internationally respected STM journals.
Mr. WANG Zhicheng, deputy head of the Publishing Bureau of the CPC Central Committee’s Propaganda Department, was accompanied on the visit by other members of the bureau, as well as Mr. YAO Yuhe, deputy head of the Jilin Provincial Propaganda Department when he made the visit on May 17.
The visiting officials were received by Ms. BAI Yuhong, editorial head of LSA and Mr. ZHANG Tao, vice president of Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, host institute of the journal.
ZHANG Tao gave the visitors an overview of CIOMP and BAI Yuhong briefed them on LSA’s past achievements and future plans.

The visitors then attended a symposium on ’Constructing China’s high profile STM journals’, held in the academic center of CIOMP. Giving the opening speech, ZHANG Tao pointed out that LSA was not only a high-profile journal, but also a platform for scientific communication and international collaboration.
BAI Yuhong then gave a detailed presentation on the LSA’s mission, history, initiatives, supports from/to its host institutions, overseas/regional offices and prospects.

Following her talk, WANG Zhicheng commented that constructing China’s own world-class STM journals has become a mission of national importance, one that is highly valued by China’s President Xi Jinping. The delegation hoped to find, through a study of LSA’s success, ways to make China’s high-profile journals more respected and successful. Wang also pointed out, as China’s flagship STM journal, LSA should further broaden its influence, and continue to set an example for breeding talents, boosting international collaborations and leading STM researches.
