Broughton Robertson, Australia’s Consul-General in Shenyang, led a delegation on a visit to the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) to negotiate academic exchanges and scientific research projects.

The visitors were received by ZHANG Xuejun, CIOMP deputy president. WANG Xiaolin, Deputy Director of Jilin Province’s Foreign Affairs Administration Office also sat in on the negotiation on Aug. 20.

The Australian diplomats were led to CIOMP’s International Optoelectronic Innovation Cluster, which included organisations such as the Hooke Instruments Co., Ltd, the Bimberg Chinese-German Green Photonics Research Center, the Guo Chunlei China-US Photonics Laboratory, and the GeOptics Sequencing Equipment Co., Ltd. 

The visitors were briefed about each of the four establishments, their research work and products. Professor GUO Chunlei, director of the Guo Chunlei China-US Photonics Laboratory, met the visitors personally and said he looked forward to working with Australia in the field of optoelectronics in the future.

The visitors were also shown the Key Laboratory of Advanced Manufacturing Technology for Optical Systems of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is capable of making large-diameter optical equipment of the order of 4 meters.

Mr. Robertson said Australia has always attached importance to cooperation with China in industry, science and technology, and culture.

The Australian Consulate in Shenyang was set up to facilitate Australia’s cooperation and exchanges with enterprises and scientific research institutes in China’s northeast region, said Mr. Robertson.

He hoped that in-depth exchanges between the two sides will lead to increased cooperation in scientific research and industry.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed that as bilateral exchanges increases in the future, CIOMP will undoubtedly develop more cooperation projects in multiple fields with Australian government agencies, universities and enterprises.

Director of the State Key Laboratory of Applied Optics, KAN Ruifeng, Director of the International Cooperation Division, ZHANG Laiming, and Deputy Director , WANG Hui attended the above activities.
