The Guo Chunlei China-US Photonics Laboratory

 

Introduction: 

The Laboratory is led by Prof. Chunlei Guo and situated in Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics, and Physics(CIOMP). Our lab collaborates with the Guo Lab in the Institute of Optics at University of Rochester, with each Institution gave birth to optics in China and the United States, respectively. The main research themes focus on laser-matter interactions, nanophotonics, advanced materials processing, and high intensity laser-gas/plasma interactions. The laboratory is housed in a 3-story/3,000-square meter (~30,000 Square feet) state-of-the-art research building.

The research by Prof. Guo has been extensively featured by news media worldwide, including The New York Times, CNN, BBC, USA Today, ABC News, MSNBC, US News & World Report, Time, NewsWeek, The Economics, Scientific American, Nature, Science, and much more.

Chunlei Guo is the Director of the Photonics Lab and also a professor in The Institute of Optics at University of Rochester. His research is in the area of femtosecond laser-matter interactions at high intensities.

He received his Ph.D. in Physics from University of Connecticut in 1999, and was later named one of the University's 40 Under 40 Outstanding Alumni. His postdoctoral training was at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1999 to 2001, where his work was awarded the Postdoctoral Publication Prize in Experimental Sciences. He joined the faculty of University of Rochester in 2001. 

His research at Rochester led to the discoveries of the so-called Black and Colored Metals, which may find a broad range of technological applications and have been covered extensively by the media, for example:
