Bimberg Chinese-German Green Photonics Research Center

Bimberg Chinese-German Green Photonics Research Center was established on April, 2018 by Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics, and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Dieter Bimberg, who is an academician of the German Academy of Sciences, the US National Academy of Engineering, the Russian and EU Academies of Sciences, and the US National Academy of Inventors. The research directions of the Bimberg Center will focus on general on quantum devices. These will include long-wavelength quantum dot HIBBEE laser technology for next-generation LiDAR, mode-locked quantum dot lasers for future Terabit/sec metro communication, and high bit rate and energy efficiency vertical cavity surface emitting lasers for optical computer interconnects, including in each case module development. The research and development will be conducted autonomously, in cooperation with other national and international research institutions and/or in cooperation with industry.

 

1. Prof. Dr. Dieter Bimberg

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Dieter BIMBERG had received the Ph.D. degree from Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany, in 1971. He held a Principal Scientist position at the Max Planck-Institute for Solid State Research, Grenoble, France until 1979. After serving as a Professor of Electrical Engineering, Technical University of Aachen, Germany, he assumed the Chair of Applied Solid-State Physics at Technical University of Berlin. He is the Founding Director of its Center of Nanophotonics. He held guest professorships at the Technion in Haifa, University of California at Santa Barbara, CA, USA, and at Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, CA. He was Distinguished Adjunct Professor at KAU, Jeddah from 2012-18 and Einstein Professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017/8. Since 2018 he is the Director of the “Bimberg Chinese-German Center for Green Photonics” of the CAS at CIOMP, Changchun. He is a Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, a Foreign Member of the National Academy of Engineering of USA, and a Fellow of the US National Institute of Inventors. The American Physical Society and IEEE elected him as fellow/life fellow, respectively. Numerous international awards like the UNESCO award and medal for Nanoscience and –technology or the Russian State Prize for Science and Technology were bestowed to him. He has authored more than 1500 papers, 60 patents, and six books. The number of times his research works have been cited exceeds 58 000 and his Hirsch factor is 107. His research interests include physics and technology of nanostructures, nanostructured photonic and electronic devices and energy efficient data communication.

 

2. Dr. Gunter Larisch

Dr. rer. nat. Gunter Larisch had received the physics Diploma degree in applied physics from the Technische Universit?t Berlin, Germany, in 2011 and a Ph.D. in science in 2017. He continued working as Postdoctoral Researcher at Technische Universit?t Berlin, Germany. Currently he is Associate Professor at the “Bimberg Chinese-German Center for Green Photonics” at Chinese Academy of Sciences and head of its High Frequency Lab.

 

3. Si-Cong Tian Dr., Associate Professor

Si-Cong Tian had received his B. Sc. and Ph. D. degree in Physics from Jilin University, China. Then he joined CIOMP, CAS in 2012. In 2016-2017 he studied in Arkansas University, US, as a visiting scholar. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at “Bimberg Chinese-German Center for Green Photonics”, CIOMP, CAS. He has authored and co-authored more than 60 papers. His research interest includes Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers, photonic crystal lasers and quantum optics.

 

4. Zhuo-Kai Yang Ms., Postgraduate

Zhuo-Kai Yang had received his bachelor degree of engineering in Nuclear Science and Technology from University of Science and Technology of China. Then he joined “Bimberg Chinese-German Center for Green Photonics” for a master degree learning. His research projects mainly focus on the measurement technology of high speed, low energy-consumption, and high temperature sable VCSEL.
