On October 28-29, 2021, the CIOMP-DOC Optics and Optical Engineering International Conference jointly organized by Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands was successfully held.
Prof. ZHANG Xuejun, deputy director of CIOMP and Prof H. P. Urbach of TU Delft, former chairman of the European Optical Society, served as co-chairs of the meeting.
The meeting focused on “super-resolution microscopy and computational imaging”, “advanced optical sensors and fabrication”, “optical lithography and metrology”, and “space optics and spectroscopy” four main topics.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Urbach expressed his appreciation for the successful convening of the conference, before giving a brief introduction to TU Delft and the Dutch Optics Centre. He added that he looked forward to the academic reports and discussions in the next two days.
The first day of the conference started with the session "Super-resolution Microscopy and Computational Imaging". Prof. Sjoerd Stallinga from TU Delft, as the first speaker, gave a report entitled "Computational Microscopy for Imaging at the Nano-scale". The academic report mainly introduced the operations of ccomputational imaging at the intersection between optical engineering of imaging systems and image processing. Prof. LI Dayu from CIOMP then gave a report entitled "Fourier ptychographic microscopy technology based on deep learning", which introduced in detail the process of reconstructing a large perspective through deep learning technology. Afterwards, Associate Researchers YAO Dong, Gopal Verma, JIN Chunqi from CIOMP, Dr. Xukang Wei, Prof. Gleb Vdovin, and Prof. Roger M. Groves from TU Delft introduced their latest research in the field of computational imaging.
In the session on "Advanced Optical Sensors and Fabrication", Associate Researchers LIU Yu and ZHOU Wenchao from CIOMP, Prof. Iman Esmaeil Zadeh and Prof. Wouter Westerveld from TU Delft introduced their research progress in sensors and conduct in-depth discussions and exchanges.
Prof. ZHANG Xuejun gave a detailed introduction of CIOMP, the international cooperation, and the PIFI program. It is hoped that this meeting can serve as a new step for the exchanges between the two sides and further advance cooperation.
The second day of the conference started with the topic of "Optical Lithography and Metrology". Associate Researcher CHENG Qiang from CIOMP started with the title "High precision testing technology of large aperture asphere based on computer generated holography", followed by reports from Associate Researchers QI Erhui, ZHANG Site, and Special Research Assistant ZOU Tingting from CIOMP, Prof. Silvania Pereira, Nandini Bhattacharya postdoctoral fellow, Postdoctoral Fellow Yifeng Shao and Prof. Omar EI Gawhary from TU Delft.
The Netherlands, a world leader in Lithography technology research, is the producer of the world’s most advanced lithography machine. CIOMP hopes to strengthen its cooperation with the Netherlands on lithography technology in order to accelerate the development of lithography in China.
In the last session, "Space Optics and Spectroscopy", Associate Researchers LI Le and LIN Chao of CIOMP gave a detailed introduction to the FY-3 Dawn Star project, and Prof. Jian-Rong Gao and Prof. Martijin Smit from TU Delft analyzed the progress of NASA GUSTO and NASA SPEXone respectively.
After the meeting, all participants toasted together with traditional Dutch gin provided by TU Delft to celebrate the successful conclusion of the conference.
TU Delft and CIOMP have a deep friendship and their faculty members have visited and exchanged with each other many times. Prof. Urbach visited CIOMP as an international visiting scholar of CAS in 2016 for academic exchanges. The successful convening of this conference has better promoted the exchanges between the two parties and laid the foundation for further international cooperation, joint training of graduate students, and exchange visits of high-level talents in the future. The Dutch side expressed satisfaction with the meeting and hoped that it can be held annually as a regular event.
The conference was conducted simultaneously online and offline, with more than 50 people taking part online, and about 100 offline researchers and students attending in the east lecture hall of CIOMP.
The International Cooperation Office aims to organize more scientific research activities in order to facilitate international academic exchanges, and continuously improve the international influence of CIOMP and promote the process of internationalization.
