Rising Stars of Light event is a worldwide campaign for the most shining young scientists in optics-related fields. The event is initiated by nature academic journal Light: Science & Applications, and co-organized by iCANX. The event has been hosted for 4 years, and attracted hundreds of thousands audiences. This year, we made a big move and separated Rising Stars of Light into two tracks: Faculty & Postdoc Track, and PhD Candidate Track.

Qualifications and How to Apply for 2022 Rising Stars of Light
A) Faculty & Postdoc Track
1.An applicant needs to be under 40 (born after 1st Jan, 1982) or obtain his/her Ph.D. degree no earlier than 1st Jan 2015.
2.An applicant needs to be nominated by a senior professor (in English).
3.An applicant needs to email the below documents to light_lsa@ciomp.ac.cn with the subject of ‘Name_Institution_2022 Rising Stars of Light’:
a) Optics-related scientific accomplishments in the past five years (no more than 600 words in English) and brief future research plan (no more than 300 words in English)
b) No more than 5 representative publications and/or patents.
c) Short bio (no more than 500 words in English)
d) A short video of the personal statement of his/her research career and major scientific achievements (no more than 3 minutes, presented in English).
4.Application Deadline: 15th August 2022
B) PhD Candidate Track
1.An applicant needs to be a Ph.D. candidate as of 1st June 2022.
2.An applicant needs to be nominated by a senior professor (in English).
3.An applicant needs to email the below documents to light_lsa@ciomp.ac.cn with the subject of ‘Name_Institution_2022 Rising Stars of Light’:
a) Optics-related scientific accomplishments in the past five years (no more than 600 words in English) and brief future research plan (no more than 300 words in English)

2022 Rising Stars of Light Selection Process
1.Candidates’ selection by the Committee: 10 final candidates (5 from each track) will be selected and announced at iCANX and on the homepage of Light: Science & Applicationson 9th September 2022. The final candidates can each enjoy one coupon of waiving publication fee in Light: Science & Applications (valid until 2024).
2.Presentation campaign at iCANX: Rising Stars of Light candidates will each give a 20 minutes academic report at the ‘iCANX’ (PhD Candidate track on 14th and Faculty & Postdoc track on 21st Oct): the committee will rate candidates based on innovation (40%), impact (30%), and performance (30%). The below awards will be awarded on 21st Oct, 2022:
Rising Stars of Light Winners: Faculty & Postdoc Track (3 person, 1500USD before tax), PhD Track (3 person, 1500USD before tax)
Rising Stars of Light Candidates: Faculty & Postdoc Track (2 person), PhD Track (2 person)
