The International Cooperation Office (ICO) invited all CIOMP speakers from the CIOMP-DOC Optics and Optical Engineering International Conference to a summing-up meeting on Nov. 2, 2021, to discuss the best way to conduct further international exchanges according to CIOMP’s future development plan.

Deputy Director WANG Hui of the ICO chaired the meeting. She expressed her appreciation for all the speakers for helping to make the CIOMP-DOC Optics and Optical Engineering International Conference a success, and invited them to make suggestions on how to better plan and organize international academic exchanges to meet research needs in the future.

Associate Researcher ZHANG Site said he was honored to be the host of one of the topic branches and was impressed by the rich scientific research results presented at the conference. He pointed out, however, that the topics of the conference were a little too broad, that even many researchers found it difficult to understand all the report. As a result, few people have listened to all the reports over the two-day periods. He suggested that future seminars should probably be more topic-focused.

Associate Researcher LI Yue thanked the ICO for organizing the conference and providing a good communication platform, and said that he was very happy to be able to showcase, to Dutch researchers, achievements of the Space One Department, who had helped sent the Fengyun-3 weather satellite into orbit after nearly seven years of hard work, making China the third country outside of the United States and Japan that can observe the solar spectrum outside the earth. At the same time, he also said that it is indeed difficult to present academic reports and conduct communications in English. He hoped that the International Cooperation Office could hold more such international conferences to improve everyone's English and international communication skills.

Associate researcher ZHOU Wenchao had in-depth exchanges and cooperation with Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. As early as 2015, he was invited to visit TU Delft and started international cooperation projects with Professor H. P. Urbach. He said that Professor H.P. Urbach attaches great importance to the cooperation with CIOMP. Even during the epidemic, they kept a steady email communication. He believed that this conference has further promoted research exchanges between the two sides.

Researchers attending the summing-up meeting discussed their thoughts about the conference and agreed that the conference helped them gain a better understanding of each other’s research directions in addition to being a great platform for international academic exchange. They felt that the conference has also promoted exchanges and cooperation within the CIOMP. They suggested that ICO should hold more online and offline communication activities, showing and introducing the results of various research departments, and having more opportunities to exercise English communication skills.

Ms. Wang pledged that ICO will continue to strengthen international exchange and cooperation, in order to better meet the development needs of CIOMP and strive to make it a truly world-class research institute.
