CIOMP Successfully Held China-Russia Space Optics Symposium

Author: YU Cun |

China-Russia Space Optics Symposium, jointly held by the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) and the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INASAN), was successfully held online on July 22, 2022.

The symposium focused on the progress of the WSO-UV project, VUV and soft X-ray optical technology, in-orbit assembly of space telescopes, and solar radiation metrology research. Ms. YU Cun of CIOMP's Division of the International Cooperation (DIC) chaired the meeting.

Making the opening speech, Mr. ZHANG Laiming, Director of DIC, pointed out that although international academic exchanges and visits had been greatly restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the past two years, CIOMP and INASAN could hopefully improve their mutual understanding through this online academic conference, learn about each other’s latest achievements in space optics, tap cooperation potential, and join force to promote progress of space optical technology.

The symposium heard eight presentations, four from each side. The reports from the Russian side mainly introduced the progress of the WSO-UV project and its optical design, the CSS spectrometer, and the design concept of the moon-based ultraviolet optical telescope of the International Lunar Research Station (ILRS).

From CIOMP, Lingping He introduced the development of VUV and soft X-ray optics; Boqian Xu and Chunyue Zhang introduced the latest progress made on the planned in-orbit assembly of China’s first space telescope; Duo Wu introduced the progress on the Fengyun-3 solar radiation monitor; and Xiaoxu Wang introduced the optomechanical design of space multispectrum and hyperspectrum.

Researchers from the two sides held in-depth discussions on all featured reports. The Russian side expressed the hope that more symposiums could be held in the future, and pledged that it would be happy to invite other Russian research institutes to join in the discussion and exchange.

The successful convening of this conference has strengthened academic ties between CIOMP and INASAN, promoted academic exchanges, enhanced mutual understanding and consolidated the foundation for substantive cooperation between the two institutes in the future.
