Seventh CIOMP Forum Session Successfully Held

Author: SHANG Lindong |

The seventh session of CIOMP Forum was successfully held on August 5, 2022. The guest speakers was Prof. Wolfgang Langbein from Cardiff University in Britain.

Prof. Langbein is a CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) funded scholar working with Prof. Li Bei. He is mainly engaged in research on anti-Stokes Raman scattering microscopy, fluorescence resonance transfer techniques, label-free microcavity optical biosensor techniques, semiconductor nanostructures and ultrafast spectroscopy.

Prof. Langbein’s lecture was titled "Sizing individual dielectric nanoparticles with quantitative differential interference contrast microscopy", in which he covered the work of their lab in differential interference microscopy in recent years from the principle of imaging accuracy of the optical cross-section of nano-microspheres, the technical principle of differential interference contrast microscope, about the ways to further improve its resolution. A particular impressive fact is that the technique can achieve the detection of nanospheres close to 100 nm in diameter.

The lecture was followed by a discussion between Prof. Langbein and his CIOMP audience. The questions covered various aspects such as technology principles, development directions, technology applications, etc. At the end of the forum, both Prof. Li Bei and Prof. Langbein said they would like to have more in-depth cooperation in talent exchange and academic exchange in the future.
