The third CIOMP-DOC Optics and Optical Engineering International Conference, jointly organized by the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands was successfully held on December 14, 2023.

ZHANG Xuejun, Director of CIOMP, and Prof. Paul Urbach, professor at TU Delft and former President of the European Optical Society, served as co-chairs. Both sides sent 6 speakers to conduct in-depth exchanges on research subjects of common interests, totaling 12 reports.

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Yifeng Shao delivered an opening speech on behalf of Dr. Urbach. He congratulated Director ZHANG on his new appointment and his election as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and hoped for further in-depth exchanges between the two institutes.

Ms. WANG Hui, Deputy Director of CIOMP’s International Cooperation Department, gave an opening speech on behalf of Director ZHANG, reviewing the profound friendship between CIOMP and the Dutch Optics Centre (DOC). In 2015, as an international visiting scientist of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Urbach came to CIOMP for academic exchange and cooperation. In the same year, former CIOMP Director JIA Ping led a delegation on a visit to TU Delft at the invitation of Professor Urbach. The following year, Professor Urbach visited CIOMP again to carry out research project cooperation. Regular exchanges and visits as well as scientific research cooperation ensued.

In 2021, in order to maintain normal communication and cooperation during the COVID-19 pandemic, the first CIOMP-DOC Optics and Optical Engineering International Conference was launched. It was such a success that both sides agreed to hold this conference as an annual event. It now serves as a new platform for communication between the two sides and facilitates further cooperation.

In the first half of the meeting, Dr. BAI Yang and Dr. WANG Yukun, Dr. Gopal Verma from CIOMP, and Dr. Zheng Zhu, Dr. Wenye Ji, and Dr. Xiujie Dou from TU Delft introduced their achievements in the field of optics. In the second half of the meeting, Dr. Wang Bin and Dr. Wang Yanchao, Dr. Liu Lin from CIOMP, and Dr. Bruno López Rodríguez, Dr. Yifeng Shao, and Dr. Thomas Kotte from TU Delft shared their latest achievements.

This academic conference attracted both online and offline audiences, and received strong support and active participation from personnel from both sides. Ms. Wang Hui pledged that the International Cooperation Office will continue to actively explore and innovate, organize various CIOMP research departments to carry out international academic exchanges and cooperation, in order to continuously improve CIOMP’s international standing.
