On June 21, the SPIE & OPTICA & IEEE & COS & CSOE student chapter (SOICC) of CIOMP hosted a significant international academic event with CIOMP’s Graduate Institute, featuring guest speakers Mercedeh Khajavikhan from the University of Southern California (USC) and Anna Shkurinova, a senior faculty member of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA).
The seminar was titled "Academic Frontiers and Overview of Higher Education in Russia", and the two speakers held dialogues with CIOMP graduate students on cutting-edge optical research and the Russian education system.
Prof. Khajavikhan elaborated on the latest research progress in guiding Trojan beams using Lagrangian points. Prof. Shkurinova introduced, in detail, the characteristics of the complete Russian education system, from elementary school to postgraduate studies, and its requirements for the cultivation of students' knowledge of basic academic subjects and practical skills.
The event concluded with an open discussion, allowing students to engage directly with the guest speakers. This interaction not only facilitated the exchange of academic ideas but also provided students with invaluable networking opportunities.
Students welcomed the face-to-face interactions, saying events like this significantly broadened their horizons and provided them with knowledge that could profoundly impact their future academic and career choices.
This academic presentation served as both an intellectual feast and a platform for cultural exchange. It brought international academic achievements to CIOMP while offering valuable insights for the internationalization of postgraduate education.
