The city of Changchun, known as the birthplace of China's optical industry, has hosted a significant international optoelectronics exhibition.
The 2024 Changchun International Optoelectronics Expo, held from 18 to 20 June, brought together over 140 research institutes and companies from around the world. The event showcased advanced technologies in optics and photonics, aiming to promote academic exchange and industry cooperation.
Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), described as the "cradle of China's optical industry", hosted the expo, which had the theme "Optoelectronics Leading and Creating the Future Together".
Zhang Xuejun, director of CIOMP, emphasized the institute's commitment to fostering international cooperation in optoelectronics and contributing to China's journey towards high-level technology.
High-ranking officials, including Jing Junhai, Secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, and Hu Yuting, Governor of Jilin Province, attended the event, underscoring its importance to regional development plans.
The Expo featured exhibitions across three pavilions, featuring advanced scientific and technological achievements and typical technological innovations based on four major disciplines: luminescence, applied optics, optical engineering, and precision machinery and instruments. With the concept of "light+X", it showcases excellent achievements in application fields such as automotive, agriculture, medical, and intelligent manufacturing.
Concurrent with the Expo, CIOMP also hosted the 2024 Light International Conference themed "Light + Everything, Cooperation and Win-Win". Experts and scholars exchanged ideas and explored ways to accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and empower high-quality development.
The Expo and conference are a key step in Changchun's ambition to build a billion-yuan optoelectronic information industry cluster, dubbed "Changchun Optics Valley". It reflects China's push for technological innovation and industrial integration in the strategic optics and photonics sector.
