On April 19, CIOMP hosted the Horizon 2020 Info Day in Changchun, co-organized with the European Commission. Mr Halldór Berg Hardarson, the Country Representative of EURAXESS China, presided over the event, which was attended by almost 60 participants from Dalian University of Technology, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Jilin University and Institute of Oceanology, and elsewhere.

Mr Hardarson first explained that the Horizon 2020 Info Day was to provide a strong platform for Chinese scientists to cooperate with European institutions. He also expressed his thanks for CIOMP’s support of the event, which he believed would encourage Chinese scientists to deepen collaboration with European scientists in the fields of energy, materials and biology, among others.

Ms WANG Hui, the deputy director of the Division of International Cooperation, gave a welcome address in which she introduced CIOMP’s international aims and activities in recent years. She hoped the event would provide research staff with the information they need to gain a better understanding of the Horizon 2020 program.

Another notable guest, Mr George Panagopoulos from the International Cooperation Service Facility of the European Commission, gave a presentation on how to apply for Horizon 2020 funding and the opportunities available to Chinese scientists. Ms Rositsa Petrova introduced the EU-China Research and Innovation Co-Funding Mechanism between the European Union and China’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST). This mechanism is designed to support mainland China-based research and innovation organisations to participate in Horizon 2020 projects. Professor Zuobin Wang from Changchun University of Science and Technology revealed his experience of successfully applying for this program and introduced some examples of how his research group had cooperated with a European team.

After the event, the EU delegation visited various laboratories: the CAS State Key Laboratory of Optical System Advanced Manufacturing Technology, HOOK Instruments and the Guo China-US Photonics Laboratory. During the visit, Associate Professor LUO Xiao introduced the research of the CAS State Key Laboratory of Optical System Advanced Manufacturing Technology. Professor LEI Bei, the CEO of HOOK Instruments, illustrated the company’s vision for the future. Associate Professor YU Weili introduced the Guo lab’s research and its developments over the previous year.
