Author: |

The first China-Belarus Science and Technology Symposium was successfully held at Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP).

Respected scientists from both countries attended the symposium. From Belarus, they include Academician Sergei Chizhik, First Vice-President of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), Academician Valentin Orlovitch, member of the Presidium of the NASB, Vasili Mashko, Deputy Director of the Association of Optics, Optoelectronics and Laser Technology of Belarus, Vitali Zaleski, Director of the Institute of Physics and Technology, and Yasuheni Piatsiushyk, Deputy Director of the O. V. Roman Powder Metallurgy Institute.

Chinese researchers at the symposium included representatives from the Institute of Metal Research, Institute of Modern Physics, Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics and Ningbo China-Russian Technology Innovation Center, and Dr. CAO Chen, Investment Director of the China-Belarus Great Stone Industrial Park’s Science and Technology Center.

President of CIOMP JIA Ping, speaking at the opening ceremony on Sept. 23, hoped that the China-Belarus Science and Technology Symposium will become an important platform for academic exchanges between China and Belarus.

Mr. JIA recalled his visit to NASB in May 2018 with Academician  BAI Chunli, President of Chinese Academy Sciences (CAS), and said CIOMP is committed to the implementation of the plan, put forward by the two academies, for a China-Belarus International Innovation Center to be established in the China-Belarus Great Stone Industrial Park. He pointed out that the symposium is an opportunity for all involved to refine plan for the center and accelerate its construction process.

Mr. Chizhik thanked CIOMP for hosting the symposium and said NASB attaches great importance to its relationship with CAS. He spoke highly of the substantive cooperation between the two institutes as well as a joint R&D institution in the industrial park.

At the symposium, researchers discussed the content and form of cooperation in the fields of advanced lasers, photodetectors, and metal materials processing. They were given briefings on the construction progress of the innovation center, and discussed how the China-Belarus Joint Laboratory will be established in the center.

Letters of intent concerning the China-Belarus International Innovation Center were signed at the symposium.

CIOMP believes the successful completion of the first China-Belarus Science and Technology Symposium further strengthened the academic links between the relevant institutes of CAS and NASB. It hopes this can lead to an acceleration of the implementation of bilateral cooperation projects, including the China-Belarus International Innovation Center.
