ZHANG Tingting, an employee of Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences, won Third Place at the Cable and Wire  Harness Assemblies Competition held in Shenzhen by the Institute of Printed Circuits (IPC) from October 9 to 11, 2019.

Ms. ZHANG and her co-worker MENG Fanrong won the unanimous praise of the judges for their exquisite skills and outstanding operation techniques. Mr. MENG won the Excellent Process Award.

This was the second such competition held by IPC and the number of participants has reached a record high. There were 47 outstanding contestants from more than 30 domestic institutions taking part, including aerospace, aviation, shipping, electronics, railway and professional wire harness manufacturers.

Contestants were required to complete the welding, crimping, assembly, testing and other procedures of a functioning cable harness within one hour. They were evaluated according to the three-level standard requirements of IPC/WHMA-A-620C “Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies”, with IPC-A-620 MIT acting as the judge.

Both Ms. ZHANGand Mr. MENG are employees of the Generic Cabling Group of CIOMP’s Electrical Installation Center (EIC). Ms. ZHANG joined CIOMP in 2010 and Mr. MENG  in 2003. They are outstanding examples of CIOMP employees who are always learning and practicing to improve their professional skills.

Harness cable is the "nerve system" of precision instrument equipments, and is directly related to product quality. Over the years, CIOMP EIC has continuously improved their capabilities and attaches great importance to staff training, holding technical knowledge and theory examinations and professional skill competitions every year.

This is not the first time EIC employees have won high-level competitions. In 2010, they won first and the second place in the "OK International" Cup Manual Welding Competition held by IPC. In 2012, they won the second place in the Qingdao Regional competition of the third IPC Manual Welding Competition. In 2013, Wang He from CIOMP won the third place in the first IPC Manual Welding International Championship.
